Sawyer’s Ultra 30 insect repellent uses Liposomes (microscopic, fluid-filled pouches), which were first used to deliver and control the release of medicine in pharmaceutical lotions. Similar to the earlier generation of polymer-based controlled release systems, the Liposomes envelop the DEET and slowly time-releases it as needed, thereby extending the effectiveness of the repellent. Unlike polymers, however, Liposomes are a natural compound that are more comfortable to the skin and easier to wear.
